1.5 migration procrastination
Written by Kyle Ledbetter
Joomla 1.0.x vs 1.5.xNormally, procrastination is a bad thing (and I'm notoriously know for it), but with the release of Joomla 1.5 "Stable" I'll surely be practicing my normal habit. We've followed the 1.5 development closely and are running it on a few sites and found that there are lots of creeping little bugs we've run accross (and reported). Most of our clients can live with bugs, but the bigger issue is that there are still many extensions (components, modules, etc.) that don't run properly in 1.5. Many of them "work" in legacy mode, but development of 1.5 compatible extensions just isn't quite there.

This leaves developers in a crappy situation. Knowing how difficult the indirect "migration" from 1.0.x to 1.5 is, I'm really tempted to start building client sites in 1.5 so I won't have to eventually migrate. That being said, our clients must come first and there sites must work as bug-free as possible. The all require one extension or another that isn't 1.5 compatible as well. So you have to choose the lesser of two evils. My recommendation to other Joomla developers is to continue developing in 1.0.x and hold of a few months before upgrading. Trust me, 1.5 just isn't quite there yet.
